Wanting to replace and upgrade our old wooden deck using low maintenance composite materials, Mike’s company, Bulldog Builders, was one of our estimates. Mike had the knowledge and experience we wanted, providing design recommendations and options we hadn’t considered, even some that lowered the cost of the project. Mike does one build at a time so you get 100% of his attention till the job is done. A change was made due to HOA restrictions and he adapted without delay. His relationship with The Deck Superstore where materials were purchased was a plus. Mike is considerate, detailed oriented and takes great pride in his work.You will not get a rush job! We recently completed a project with Mike Roberts. He and his team build a deck on the back of our house. We had a deck there that was original to the house and literally almost falling off the house. Mike, Brandon and Krystal were all great to work with and I would highly recommend them! Mike, Brandon and Chrystal did a fantastic job on my deck. I said replace the old one. Far better than that. Mike knew just what I wanted and delivered. On budget, on time. They were great dealing with me, all my family, 2yr granddaughter and old Golden Retriever. And neighbors peaking in occasionally. I needed to leave town for a wedding and had no problem giving them my house keys and full authority to finish. Super surprise to return to a dream deck.

We wanted to share our experience with Bulldog Builders; Mike Roberts and his crew, Krystal and Evan. My Mom and I hired Bulldog Builders to rebuild the deck at our house. When Mike initially showed up at our house, he was very professional, knowledgable, kind and compassionate. He took the time to truly listen to what we visioned, and offered great suggestions on type, color etc. As well, he met us at the Deck Superstore to help pick out the deck we wanted, answered questions and offered suggestions. Bulldog Builders was hired to complete the flooring and railing installation on a sloppy deck framing job that the original contractor had started and left unfinished. Mike Roberts promised to fix it and do the job right. After correcting the framing discrepancies, Mike’s team set about competing the installation of Trex flooring and Fortress railings. I was so impressed with Mike’s workmanship and attention to detail that I hired him to remake another deck on my property. I highly recommend Mike Roberts to anyone looking for perfection in their project. In my case the project was outside decking, but I wouldn’t hesitate to hire Mike for any project. He’s an expert craftsman!
Years ago I bought the materials for a 415 ft2 Trex composite deck to replace an existing deck plus an extension, but the project stalled after I had installed the joists for the replacement portion. Many contractors were not interested in taking over an already started job, but Mike came out the day I called for an estimate. He had a plan and a very reasonable rate, so I hired him that same day, best decision I’ve made in a long time! Mike and his team, Adrian and Brandon came out and demonstrated their experience immediately. They knew exactly all the materials that were required and ensured they were all available before starting the job. If anything was missing they knew where to get it and they procured it, adding it onto the bill, at cost. These guys are very professional and meticulous! Not only are they builders, but Mike acts as a design consultant as well, my wife and I were incredibly pleased with the results of the construction of our deck and railing system; they did a fantastic job. As a matter of fact, after “phase 1” was completed I called them back for the extension portion, phase 2, a year and a half later. Again the project was in progress, but Mike didn’t blink, it was not an issue. Mike and Adrian returned and Mike made some excellent suggestions to improve the strength and look of the deck, while increasing the deck area. Mike has an intuition for design and Adrian and him are a team that is very pleasant to work with and that work very well together. Mike, Adrian, and Brandon are all very hard working, personable, prompt, professional and form a very skilled team that I would not hesitate to hire again for any other project. Mike is fair in his pricing and delivers an excellent end-product. We were in need of someone to replace our deck. We contacted a few contractors that specialized in this area. Some came and gave outrageous bids. Some never bothered to show up. Mike Roberts, the owner of Bulldog Builders was recommended to us from a few different people. He came, determined the scope of work and made some recommendations. He advised us to check out the Deck Superstore for products and samples that we might use. We made a few trips there and each time resulted in questions for Mike. Mike always got back to me the same day or not long after until we came up with what we wanted in terms of products, colors, costs, quality ,etc. Mike delivered a proposal that included what we needed to make our project happen. When the demo of the old deck took place, we/he discovered that the brick pillars that had supported our old deck contained the wrong size (way too small) of wood posts that had rotted inside the pillars due to weather and moisture. It was a miracle that the deck did not cave in and take the back of our house with it. Mike discussed the situation with us and presented alternatives to the construction for the deck taking into account the correct support that would be required. The deck is 12X25. We have a 2 story house with a walk out basement, so it was important that a deck this high be well supported. He ended up putting in really beefy posts, making sure there would never be an issue like the one we had with the old deck. It took extra time and planning to do but was necessary that it be done right. Mike, his son and their crew do quality work. They are precise and didn’t mind asking for our opinion when things could have been done a couple of different ways. We learned that we had to be patient and let them do what they do. Good work takes time! We couldn’t be happier with the final result. The deck looks awesome. We’ve received nothing but positive comments on both the cosmetic and structural appearance. We will enjoy the maintenance free Trex deck for a long, long time and thank Mike and his crew for making it a reality.
We moved to Colorado three years ago. The home we purchased had two decks: one large upper deck and one smaller lower deck. Shortly after buying our home, we noticed a tilt in our upper deck. Simultaneously, the recessed hot tub in that deck began to leak. We decided to replace the hot tub and put it on a new deck section connected to the lower level deck. I reached out to several deck contractors, but Mike was the only one who responded. And, he responded immediately. Mike scheduled a time convenient to our working schedules to discuss our deck addition. While assessing the new deck, I also asked Mike to look at our other decks. One by one, Mike began to point out serious issues. I know just enough about construction to know that he wasn’t trying to sell me a bill of goods. He was finding serious issues. We engaged a civil engineer through Mike to assess the situation. The engineer’s recommendation was “I wouldn’t use that upper deck if I were you.”
What started as a deck addition turned into a complete rebuild. Complicating the situation, our home was on the side of a mountain. Access to the construction area with any kind of equipment was prohibitive. Even worse, to rebuild the deck as it was would have required soil mitigation to stabilize the ground. That would have put us way beyond any reasonable budget. Mike spent many hours with us brainstorming ideas, drawing concepts, and trying to help us figure out how we could rebuild the deck affordably. He never quit on us.
Finally, we were able to come up with a design that would satisfy the engineering requirements, allow us to pretty much duplicate the square footage we had previously, and stay within a reasonable budget. Architects drew up the plans, we agreed on materials, and Mike went off to obtain the permits. We hit a snag with the County when they determined that our house (built in 1979) was 15 feet too close to the property line! Mike immediately started working with the County to figure out a solution that would allow him to begin construction while awaiting the variance hearing. (Timing was becoming critical because this project, started in August was getting ready to begin construction as winter was approaching.) After spending an entire day at the County, Mike obtained the necessary permits. Deck destruction and construction finally began.
Mike’s crew was very efficient and they kept our space very clean throughout the entire project. The destruction took one day. The construction materials we chose required steel framing and Trex decking. The deck pattern was fairly simple but the construction was not. We had to cantilever one side and a corner, with the latter being a curve instead of an angle. All throughout the process, Mike was extremely cost conscious. We made some design changes to the railings as the project progressed. Mike provided new costs very quickly and made sure he used every bit of material as efficiently as possible. They knew we were trying to get our hot tub in by Christmas. They worked through the snow and some very cold December temperatures. We were able to get out new hot tub installed the day before Christmas Eve thanks to Mike and his crew.
We grew to trust Mike and his great crew early on, so much so that we gave them free access to our home while we were at work so they could use the restroom and warm up when needed. They kept our house neat and clean and were very careful to lock up when they left.
Our deck is a thing of beauty. We love the look, the construction, and the strength in the steel construction. Mike and his fabulous crew—I can’t say enough about how great his crew was—produced an excellent product for us. I know how difficult it is to get a contractor to call you back or even consider doing your work when you live in the mountains. The work window can be short due to the weather. Mike didn’t just call us back and he didn’t just consider our job. MIKE DELIVERED! We are extremely pleased with our entire experience with Mike and Bulldog Builders and recommend them most enthusiastically. Now, for spring to come so we can begin to enjoy our new deck!

I have now used Bulldog Builders Inc two times, once for a fence and gate and the second time for a bathroom conversion from a half bath to a full bath. The owner, Mike Roberts, was a pleasure to work with and when he was working on my projects he was there everyday, started when he said he would and finished on schedule. I found his pricing to be very reasonable and the quality of the work is second to none.
We had a very challenging back yard with a tiny balcony for a deck. We hired Bulldog Builders Inc. to excavate the ground to level it and build an upper composite deck and lower paver patio. Not an easy task. The yard is very narrow and very long! And where do you find one guy that can do it all?
